I was browsing VIN (Veterinary Information Network) and came across this video earlier today:
It bugs me, probably a bit more than it should, when shows on a dedicated network say something wildly inaccurate.
The major offending statement: "Servals are a hybrid of Felis domesticus and this African beast. [cut to video of a serval] The serval -- cousin to the cheetah, directly descended from the lion."
OMG. I stopped the video then and there. I'm sure it was in the script for the sensationalist effect, but I expect some semblance of accuracy from a show that was developed for Animal Planet. Maybe that's too much to expect. But seriously? Directly descended from lions?
It just doesn't compute.
If I watch animal planet its for their older shows that still run, (Big Cat Diaries, mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom, Animal Cops, etc.) all the new ones are crap.
